2009 Visual Language Project

Tuesday, April 21, 2009 Final Project Proposal
So I have settled on what I am going to do FINALLY!!!
For several years I have written poetry. I have always wanted to illustrated them and place them in a book. However, I decided that I wouldn't make a traditional book. I will create 6 10x10 paintings illustrating 6 different poems. I will then shoot 3-6 minutes of footage inspired by all of the poems. Yes, Im getting all personal with this. As an end result I hope to have my video streaming either on a small tv in front of the pieces or projected onto the wall behind it. This will include audio.

First Painting Titled: Crash

The basis of my video idea comes from both Kara Walkers, Akira Kurosawa's and Destiny Palmers work. The imagery idea came from my sketchbook but I can relate my work to Taina Vargas.

Akira's film Dreams-"Crows" places the viewer in the artists piece.

During one of Kara's gallery showings she had lights that casted the viewers shadow on the walls to make them feel as though they were part of the piece.

Destiny Palmer/Cori Spencer- Cello players backdrop of city scene, lights, and paintings. They did this as well. During a Cello performance De conducted a multiple wall projection of imagery that reinforced the idea the musician had derived from each song.

Taina Vargas- Poem and illustration in form of painting

Personal Growth.
“The hardest part about growing up is letting go of what you were used to, & moving on with something you're not.”
Book/Video/Installation

Prelminary sketchs:

I want to create a book with video.. Each painting will illustrate a poem from my past leading up to now.
There will be a central animated figure in each piece. The theme and focus of the installation will be emotional growth through poetry and the recognition of the world around us.
I will recite a poem created solely for this piece or possibly if found a poem depicting personal growth. A poem will be recited in the background either as a projection on the wall or backdrop of the paintings.

Video- compilation of old photos and video footage (w/ a recited poem)

From: http://www.personalitypage.com/personal.html Perhaps the most important realization that an individual can make in their quest for personal growth is that there is no single formula that defines the path to personal success. We all have different goals and priorities, which means that different activities and attitudes will make us feel good about ourselves. We also have different natural strengths and weaknesses that are a part of our inherent personality type. How then, as individuals, can we feel successful in our lives? Personal growth is a process that brings about personal change. Now, what can you do to improve your present situation? You wonder don't you? Well, why not ask yourself a few questions. From: http://www.about-personal-growth.com/ Do you like where you are and what you have become? Have you ever wished that your life was better? Can your relationship improve? Are you producing the results that you want? What makes you feel good? Why do you do what you do? What triggers you to produce your behavior? How do you reach the top rung and achieve success?

Hit again.

Haiti has been hit again and my feeling are unexplainable and Im so confused as to what I can do. I am trying very hard to put together this fundraiser but my heart just wants to give up and my eyes just want to cry... I feel now that this is my home and I am sorry to those with a much closer connection than I but I feel remorse, and endless worry. I just don't know what to do....

Mon coeur x2

Waiting and waiting, anticipation breaks my heart, a reality of life and how much...

Mon coeur

Haiti. I've never been proud, I never showed I care, but tonight my heart aches more for Haiti than anything right now. My aunty! please lord, I hope she is safe, I pray God guided her to safety. I don't want to regret, but I regret my actions for the past four years. I have taken life for granted. I can't anymore, I need to break this habit. I love my aunts, my cousin...

yum again.

Owl City, homemade pizza, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Owl City ehh. people tell me "Fireflies" reminds them of me. It's my feel good song, has been since the summer, it's been getting big on the radio i've been told, pfft glad to say i heard it first.

"Leave my door open just a crack.
(Please take me away from here.)
Cause I feel like such an insomniac.
(Please take me away from here.)
Why do I tire of counting sheep?
(Please take me away from here.)
When I'm far too tired to fall asleep
To ten million fireflies.
I'm weird, cause I hate goodbyes
I got misty eyes as they said farewell.
But I'll know where several are
If my dreams get real bizarre
Cause I saved a few,
And I keep them in a jar."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr9EKJatJvA

This song definitely describes the current sleeping problems in my apartment.

Cloudy??
This movie was honestly quite awesome and the animation was absolutely adorable.
Pizza was delicious and I'm certain this food making can only get better. This week I'm going to attempt to work on these Co-Lab pieces. Heeeerreee We Goooo!

Tinglemeister

So my brain is tingling and as per usual it is for many reasons.

1. The Lovely Bones.

This movie has brought back the emotions that had risen after Sarah and I were mugged last May, it also made me think hard about the importance of valuing your life and making the best of it while it lasts. You never know when you may take a fatal turn so making the best of every situation (and also being aware of you surroundings) is super duper important

2. Alternative Spring Break.

We need fund raising ideas to bring down the cost of this Habitat for Humanity trip. Ideas Ideas Ideas... the caricatures that I did last semester did well and I wonder if people would donate to a cause like habitat if we offered them art, paintings, caricatures, portraits, homemade pillows? we'll see what happens.

3. The Collaboration Show

All my collaborations need to get moving because I need to see progress!!! I'll get on that haha.

4. Arg. Mon Coeur

....mon coeur douloureux essaye à l'obstacle son besoin d'éclater

Anywho, I may post later we'll see.

Old Hobbies...New Direction

So I have always loved making greeting cards, always. I want to try and make a few a day but maybe keep them. I always make them to give away so I'll work on at least documenting them. Linoleum prints have helped make a more authentic but reproducible ones, I'll keep posting any cards I make. Woooooooo.

Jewelry made from found objects? This is my attempt to spread my wings a little bit, with a few marbles and several gears I'm off to a good start. Most of these were sold at MassArt's Holiday Sale but the rest were gifted to my buddies for Christmas! I am especially excited about my Panda Loviin' pieces which I'm thinking of expanding. We'll see.

Back at this one more time.

Back to blogging, but on a personal artistic level. Being busy in 2009 was an understatement and after this break that will probably happen again. I am trying to enjoy the sleeping in, but it figures I'm tired of sleeping. So blogging, drawing, working, outdoor enjoying, job hunting and etc. are beginning hardcore after tonight. Ohh and pickles, I might have to restock ... I'm on my last jar. Just a note.
