So I have settled on what I am going to do FINALLY!!!
For several years I have written poetry. I have always wanted to illustrated them and place them in a book. However, I decided that I wouldn't make a traditional book. I will create 6 10x10 paintings illustrating 6 different poems. I will then shoot 3-6 minutes of footage inspired by all of the poems. Yes, Im getting all personal with this. As an end result I hope to have my video streaming either on a small tv in front of the pieces or projected onto the wall behind it. This will include audio.
First Painting Titled: Crash
The basis of my video idea comes from both Kara Walkers, Akira Kurosawa's and Destiny Palmers work. The imagery idea came from my sketchbook but I can relate my work to Taina Vargas.
Akira's film Dreams-"Crows" places the viewer in the artists piece.

During one of Kara's gallery showings she had lights that casted the viewers shadow on the walls to make them feel as though they were part of the piece.
Destiny Palmer/Cori Spencer- Cello players backdrop of city scene, lights, and paintings. They did this as well. During a Cello performance De conducted a multiple wall projection of imagery that reinforced the idea the musician had derived from each song.

Personal Growth.
“The hardest part about growing up is letting go of what you were used to, & moving on with something you're not.”
Book/Video/Installation
Prelminary sketchs:
I want to create a book with video.. Each painting will illustrate a poem from my past leading up to now.
There will be a central animated figure in each piece. The theme and focus of the installation will be emotional growth through poetry and the recognition of the world around us.
I will recite a poem created solely for this piece or possibly if found a poem depicting personal growth. A poem will be recited in the background either as a projection on the wall or backdrop of the paintings.
Video- compilation of old photos and video footage (w/ a recited poem)
From: http://www.personalitypage.com/personal.html Perhaps the most important realization that an individual can make in their quest for personal growth is that there is no single formula that defines the path to personal success. We all have different goals and priorities, which means that different activities and attitudes will make us feel good about ourselves. We also have different natural strengths and weaknesses that are a part of our inherent personality type. How then, as individuals, can we feel successful in our lives? Personal growth is a process that brings about personal change. Now, what can you do to improve your present situation? You wonder don't you? Well, why not ask yourself a few questions. From: http://www.about-personal-growth.com/ Do you like where you are and what you have become? Have you ever wished that your life was better? Can your relationship improve? Are you producing the results that you want? What makes you feel good? Why do you do what you do? What triggers you to produce your behavior? How do you reach the top rung and achieve success?
